An Install A Gadget Tow & Safety Package for Peter's RAM -Part 2

We previously readied Peter's RAM just prior to picking up his new caravan and before a canopy installation (Read here), now here's the final update to his tow rig, almost ready to hit the road.

Having already installed the BlackVue DR770X-1CH front dash camera which can facilitate a second rear camera, we added a Blackvue External Rear Camera Package ERC1-C  in to the setup, mounting it on the rear of the Ram for rear vision.

For essential communication with other drivers, especially large trucks, to safely manoeuvre in confined spaces, handle overtaking, and be warned of possible dangers ahead, we installed Uniden's XTRAK80 UHF Radio with a 7dB Radome Detachable Mast UHF Antenna Kit and a through- dash socket for the Microphone. This means the microphone and lead can be removed and stowed away safely when not in use.

The XTRAK80 UHF Radio features a large, high-contrast anti-glare OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display, and its backlit keypad is clear and easy to read in all lighting conditions.

It also features a powerful integrated 2-Watt speaker and has a clever 4 level voice enhancer function, to enhance sound for maximum clarity in noisy settings and you'll never ask "what did they say?" again, with auto record and one touch play back up to 6 minutes of the most recent communications.

Wanting to stay connected while travelling, Peter opted for The Starlink Mini, which we mounting to the roof rack with a custom made bracket for permanent installation. Starlink Mini is designed as a portable satellite dish and Wi-Fi router for high speed internet access. We recognised that when the Mini is run from a battery at lower voltages than mains power, it doesn't work as efficiently and connection and/or speeds can be problematic, so we solved this by installing our own 12/24V Starlink Mini Power Adapter to the Mini, so it runs efficiently and as intended.

A Redarc Redvision System was installed with the canopy build, so we linked the power for the Mini to the Redvision system, for ease of switching the Mini on and off from the Redvision display.

Peter plans to mount Clearview's nifty Powerslide electric drop down fridge holder, so we also installed an Anderson plug lead to power it, and an Engel fridge socket for his Engel fridge.

We also supplied a REDARC (SPFP200) 200W folding portable, thin film solar panel.
